The first reptiles

What were the first reptiles? Surprise…they were not giant dinosaurs.
In fact they were much like some reptiles today.

This is an illustration of the oldest known reptile: Hylonomus lyelli dating to ~ 320 m.y.a..

So, how did little reptiles become dinosaurs? This is the BIG QUESTION-

Some scientists believe that as the climate and atmosphere changed, so did the reptiles. The earth became a very unfriendly place to live and only the strongest and largest male and female reptiles survived.

Did a cataclysmic event occur?
Did radiation affect the reptiles so much that they began to grow bigger and bigger?

No one can know for sure (since we weren’t there to see for ourselves), so we have to look at the evidence left behind and make theories based upon that information.

Lets look at one diagram.

Note: In July, we will be featuring two brief articles that discuss Dinosaurs from the
perspective of a Creationist Dinosaur Expert and by a Dinosaur Evolutionsist….so check back
and we will give you all of the in-depth info. you “crave”… and we hope this will help you
make up your own mind about dinosaurs and early life upon our planet.
